Mini Opera-Writing Online competition.   Tamsin wrote 3 libretti based on seed stories provided by leading authors: What Dreams May Come (based on Neil Gaiman's 'Sweeper of Dreams'), 'Facing the Truth' (based on 'On Paper' by A.L. Kennedy) and 'Publish and be Damned' (based on 'Death of a Government Inspector' by Will Self).  These scripts served as models for competition entrants to study.  Tamsin then worked with ENO Baylis to shortlist the winning scripts that were put through to the composition and film-making rounds.

Tamsin's original pieces were set to music and made into short films by other leading industry practitioners, to serve as insipration for these subsequent rounds.

In 2012, Tamsin was appointed Writer in Residence for English National Opera's online opera-writing compeition.  Three writers - Will Self, A.L. Kennedy and Neil Gaiman - donated seed short stories to the competition.  Entrants were encouraged to use these stories as starting points to inspire their own original scripts, scores and films for 10 minute operas, over three separate rounds of competition.  Tamsin was commissioned to write a sample libretto for each story which was posted online. You can see her being interviewed about the process by ENO in these short videos.

Tamsin then helped to shortlist the winning scripts, narrowing 500 international entries down to around 20 finalists.  The winning entries were selected from this list by the authors of the original stories and taken forward to the next round of the competition.
